If anyone is curious why this blog got its name, look no further it is I, Jackie who is responsible.
My first introduction to this mixed rice dish is from one of my first few k-drama modern series that I watched - ‘Full House’. Rain commented that it looks like dog food and I have to agree with him because it was mixed (always) in a stainless steel bowl with an unusual long spoon. Song Hye Kyo indeed made it looked it was delicious and later when I did tried for real it is indeed so.
Subsequently, it is featured in many k-dramas somewhat as a comfort food, just like the English do with their tea. Normally, usually to foster a deeper relationships. Golden Bride had one where Mrs Kang mixed one bowl where she and Jin Joo shared when she was upset for not be able to locate her father the first time they openly searched for him, there is again the comfort in that shared meal.
Just a brief description what Wikipedia said about it.
Bimbibap (or rather BiBimBap) is served in a bowl of white rice topped with namul (sauteed and seasoned vegetables), beef, a fried egg and gochujang (chili pepper paste). The ingredients are stirred together thoroughly just before eating. It can be served either hot and cold.
This bring to mind what we are doing here. We may come from all walks of life, from different colourful background, probably speaking a different language (but English of course combined us), ages and life experiences. We are together here as ingredients to a fine mixed that can only end out in a delicious meal. We have our different opinions where there is no real right nor wrong just like this dish can be taken hot or cold.
What a great way to foster new relationships together with a common passsion for our characters in our k-dramas storylines.
We’re happy to know each one of you and most important let us all enjoy our ‘meal’.
